Al parecer en 1925 ya se creó un comité para la búsqueda de un diseño para la bandera. En 1946, con más de 2000 diseños, no se escogió ninguno de ellos. El actual corresponde a George F.G. Stanley, aprobado unánimemente el 29 de octubre de 1964, aprobado legalmente el 15 de diciembre del mismo año, proclamada por la Reina Isabel II el 28 de enero de 1965 y, como se ha expuesto, ondeado por primera como bandera nacional el 15 de febrero de dicho año.
